BIOGRAPHY

Denizhan Akbaba is an award-nominated actor and filmmaker with a career that bridges the gap between independent arthouse cinema and global streaming platforms. Born in Istanbul in 2001, he entered the film industry at the age of eight, building a remarkably diverse portfolio across theatre, film, and television. Denizhan’s early years were shaped by the stage; at age 12, he began a three-year tenure in professional theatre, touring internationally and delivering a critically acclaimed performance at the Dortmund Theater in Germany. His transition to cinema was marked by his collaboration with legendary director Bahman Ghobadi in The Four Walls (2021) and his breakout lead role in the poetic coming-of-age story Girl with No Mouth (2019). His performance as "Ali" in the acclaimed film Ela with Hilmi and Ali (2022) established him as one of the most respected young actors in Turkey, earning him Best Actor nominations at both the International Istanbul Film Festivaland the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival. Denizhan has also become a familiar face to global audiences through his roles in Netflix productions such as the film Last Summer (2021) and the series Who Were We Running From? (2023). In tandem with his acting career, Denizhan has cultivated a strong identity as a filmmaker. Driven by a passion for high-concept storytelling, he co-wrote and directed his first medium-length film in 2020 with his twin brother, Emirhan, and completed his first feature film at age 21. His work as a director focuses on immersive narratives and innovative visual language. Leveraging his extensive experience on both sides of the camera, Denizhan currently serves as a Juror for The Seattle Film Festival. His deep-rooted understanding of performance, combined with his visionary approach to production, allows him to contribute a unique and authoritative voice to the international film community.
